What is Snail Mail?
Mae Govannen, traveller! I'm Endarion, a Ranger of Ithilien. You might be wondering, how exactly does Letters of Ithilein work? What is a snail mail club?
Snail mail is the revival of sending physical letters to friends with a traditional stamp. Yep, a good-old stamp! No tracking number, no express shipping. We believe there is beauty in waiting for a good thing to arrive, precisely when it means to! (Gandalf would agree.)
This is exactly how J.R.R. Tolkien wrote to his family, friends and readers of his works. We like to think this letter club helps keep that tradition alive.
Every month, we reflect on a theme in Tolkien's Middle-earth (these are original essays written by us). Together with my wife, who is an artist, we write and draw for that month's theme. Then we print, fold, pack, and wax seal each individual letter by hand!
All of this takes time, which is why we post on the last day of the month. The date you sign up simply means you are in it for that month's mail-out, and future ones after that! To keep things simple, future billing will happen on that same day every month.
We are so grateful to our community, and knowing that you look forward to our letters every month.

FAQ's
How does shipping work?
Standard Domestic and international shipping is included in the monthly price!
Please note - letters are sent from Australia and are untracked.
This helps keep our monthly subscription low.
Expected delivery times:
Australia: letters usually arrive in major cities within 10 business days.
International: depending on your location, letters can take 15+ business days.
If it’s been 4 weeks since we sent your letter and it still hasn’t arrived, please email us shirefolktales@gmail.com.
If your country isn't available at checkout, you can email us to confirm. Right now we post to 30+ countries.
When will my first letter be sent?
All letters are packed and posted on the last business day of each month.
If you sign up any time during that month, you’re in that month’s send.
Example: You join on the 3rd or even the 25th, you get that month’s letter
Arrival time depends on where you are located, International can take 2-4 weeks.
How am I billed?
Letters of Ithilien is billed on the same day each month, based on when you first signed up.
Example: If you sign up on the 12th of January, you’ll be charged again on the 12th of February, 12th of March and so on!
If you would like to cancel your subscription you just need to do so before your next billing cycle.
Can I update my address, payment details, or cancel?
Yes! You can update your shipping address, payment method, or pause/cancel any time through your account portal.

Do you do refunds?
We’re a small print by hand letter club, so unfortunately we can’t offer refunds.
You can cancel your subscription at any time.

Yes! We are an independent and unofficial project by fans, for fans! All original works created for this project and are not affiliated with the rights holders.
Can I write back?
We would absolutely love that!! There will be a return PO Box on the envelope.
